Amy,
a good thing to do besides an oil change in the spring is a new spark plug,
cleaning of air filter and change of brake fluid. The brake pads should be
looked at but probably don't need to be as often changed as the fluid.
Look for the battery, charging it once before you start can't hurt and look
for the tire pressure and tire conditions.
